Pullman Miri Waterfront Buffet: Le Marché Buffet

My family and I, together with my two friends went to try Pullman Miri Waterfront Hotel’s buffet last weekend.  The buffet has a very special name to it: Le Marché.  Le Marché  is a French word (pronounced as “lay MAR-kay”) which simply means, The Market.  True to its name, you can imagine all the different fresh raw food that are available for your choosing!

Ever wanted to be a chef but don’t have the skills with the wok?  Ever wondered how certain ingredients, when combined, would taste like?  The best part to this buffet is that you get to try out many different recipes of your own choice.  Mix and match these raw ingredients to make your own recipe!

Le Marche

Le Marché: How Does It Work?

It’s very simple really!
Step 1 – Grab a plate and pick the raw ingredients of your choice.
Step 2 – Bring your plate to the chef and choose the cooking style of your choice.  Here you will be given a number which you should bring with you to your table.
Step 3 – Sit and wait for your new recipe food to be served to you at your table!

See! It’s that easy.  Here’s the breakdown of the steps (complete with pictures):

First, grab a plate and proceed to this oval ‘market’ to pick all the raw ingredients that you like.  What’s that? Looks like not much you say?  Read on and let me prove you wrong!

My first stop was the raw meat section.  I’m quite a meat eater!

CYRIL-LEMARCHE (70)

Once you have taken the raw food of your choice, bring your plate to this counter and let the chef know your preferred cooking style (choices as shown below).

CYRIL-LEMARCHE (72)

Choose your preferred cooking style! There are so many methods to choose, took me awhile to decide; from various spicy Asian style to fiery wok-fried Chinese style, all the different cooking styles!  My personal favourite is the classic Chinese style with Garlic.

CYRIL-LEMARCHE (86)

Once you have placed your order, you will be given a number tag which you should place on your table so that the waiter can serve your dish to you according to the number tag once done.

CYRIL-LEMARCHE (91)

The Chef will start to prepare your order right away.  Pullman Kitchen has an open kitchen concept, therefore we can actually witness the ‘magic’ of the Chef.  I noticed that there were many chefs on duty, therefore preparation time for each dish was extremely fast if not instant!

CYRIL-LEMARCHE (77)

While waiting for your order to be cooked help yourself to the freshly squeezed drinks at the drinks corner.

CYRIL-LEMARCHE (47)

By the way, the drink in brown next to the orange juice is actually Ice Coffee, and a very good one too!  The ice coffee was very thick (‘kao’) and nice!  Mind you, I’m a coffee person and it’s not easy to please me!

CYRIL-LEMARCHE (71)

If all that wasn’t enough, there is also the healthier choice salad corner.

CYRIL-LEMARCHE (64)
Fish Kerabu
CYRIL-LEMARCHE (56)
6 different kinds of salad dressing of your choice.

CYRIL-LEMARCHE (69)

Apart from the Asian and Chinese style, there is also the Western Style grilled corner where you can have the food of your choice grilled and served with the gravy of your choice.

CYRIL-LEMARCHE (95)

The Chef busy grilling my salmon to crust and juicy perfection!

CYRIL-LEMARCHE (93)

Grilled Salmon, anyone?  I love this.  Ah, mouth watering all over again!

CYRIL-LEMARCHE (94)

I’ve never tried grilled bamboo clams before, so giving it a try.  Quite nice too!

Next to the grill, there are some ready grilled vegetables; grilled potatoes, grilled carrots and grilled pumpkin.

CYRIL-LEMARCHE (85)

There’s also the soup corner if you prefer your mee or kueh tiaw to be soup-based.  There is the choice of chicken soup or laksa soup.

CYRIL-LEMARCHE (90)

This was my first try at my own recipe: Kueh Tiaw + Midin + Spring Onions + Smoked Duck + Chicken.  I chose to have it Chinese style fried with garlic.

CYRIL-LEMARCHE (92)

Tada! This is my masterpiece recipe.  I really loved the combination of the soft kueh tiaw accompanied by the crunchiness of the midin!  The taste of the smoked duck blended well with the overall dish!  Fantastic.  When I go for this buffet again, this will be my top choice again!

CYRIL-LEMARCHE (101)

Trying out another recipe!  Mee + Eggplant (Brinjal) + Sliced Lamb + Onion.  My choice of style was Chinese style fried with egg.

CYRIL-LEMARCHE (105)

Okay, presentation wise, maybe needs more improvement on the colour contrast.  Taste wise? This won’t be a recipe I will try again.  Ha ha.

CYRIL-LEMARCHE (99)

Now for some western style grill! Lamb + Chicken + Beef + Smoked Duck.  Won’t go wrong with grilled.

CYRIL-LEMARCHE (102)

And I was right.  Won’t go wrong with grill.  Yummylicious juicy crusted tasty goodness!

CYRIL-LEMARCHE (100)

What about some grilled seafood?  Salmon + Sea bass + Prawn + Bamboo Clam

CYRIL-LEMARCHE (103)

Another yummylicious juicy crusted tasty perfection!

CYRIL-LEMARCHE (104)

Grilled oyster with cheese is also a good combination!

Once you have had enough, it’s time for desserts.  There are also plenty of desserts to choose from.

CYRIL-LEMARCHE (96)

Naturally, my daughter went skipped these desserts and went straight for the ice-cream corner. Two different flavours of ice-cream are available; yam and vanilla.

CYRIL-LEMARCHE (48)

Six different kinds of toppings are available, guaranteed to make your eyes wide open with excitement; pecan nut, croquant, mixed fruit, chocolate rice, crumble, croquantine.

CYRIL-LEMARCHE (98)

Leave the toppings choices to your kids.  My daughter was excited to try the different toppings and indulged herself in a lot of the chocolate rice!

CONCLUSION

Overall, this is a buffet I will surely be returning to.  At RM68++ (kids 12 & below gets half price), I feel that it is really worth it for the choices that are available and the fact that the food is made to order according to your desire.

Where else do you get an unlimited buffet that allows you to take unlimited amount of raw ingredients to be combined together and then cooked on the spot according to the style that you prefer?

By the way, the Le Marche buffet is only available from Wednesday to Friday from 6.30 pm – 10.00 pm.  If you’re looking for their buffet for the weekends (Saturday and Sunday), it’s currently the ‘Spices of the Orient’ buffet.  Click here to read about it.

Do try to make reservations beforehand to avoid disappointment.  Pullman Miri Waterfront Hotel’s contact number is +60 85-323 888.
